Notes:
The Preston Market Mystery project has a duration of several years. Initially the project will consist of a series of events that are located within Preston Market Place. These events will accumulate information that will contribute to the final work of the project. I began the project after visiting Preston and become intrigued with the city's Covered Markets. 'Markets for me are places of transactions that belie the shininess of the mall and high street giving instead a visceral sense of a community chatting and moving through a space that is at one and the same time ancient and contemporary... In a society that has profoundly moved towards the audit of our activities the market place seems a fine context to sell insurance against loss of mystery.' Event 1. On Tuesday 21st, Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd of November, shoppers were encouraged to visit the 'Insurance Stall' in the covered market and tell their real-life mysteries. The mysteries were recorded and will further inform the development of the project. In return, contributors received an insurance certificate against 'Loss of Mystery'. www.lossofmystery.com
