Walking Stick Give Away – From A Garden of Walking Sticks
A part of a larger installation piece by John Newling, From A Garden of Walking Sticks is to be divided up and given away to eighteen lucky winners of the prize draw for a unique usable art piece.
Taking the entrants measurements Newling will craft a made to measure walking stick from the Jersey Kale cabbages he grew for the exhibition Ecologies of Value currently in Nottingham Contemporary.
To enter this prize draw you must fill out and entry form available from our Reception or online. All forms must be handed into the Nottingham Contemporary reception before 12 noon on 28 March. The draw will be done using Nigerian lottery machine on 28 March.
As part of this art piece John will craft the usable walking sticks live in the galleries on the 1, 2 and 3 April ready to present them to the winners from 4th April. These walking sticks will be tailor made for eighteen lucky people using the winners’ exact measurements personalising each artwork for the intended user.
John Newling’s exhibition, Ecologies of Value, explores society’s shared values, such as religion and money, and the natural world and its ecological systems. The walking sticks symbolise the support that the natural world offers to human – in this case physically.
